Photos ci-dessousLa Fête de la Transfiguration du Seigneur 2008 (6 Août) sera un souvenir spécial à Prince Albert au Canada. En la Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur de Jésus, le Nonce Apostolique du Canada Mgr Ventura, a ordonné évêque Mgr Albert Thévenot de la Société des Missionnaires d'Afrique. Il est le 7è pasteur de ce Diocèse depuis sa fondation en 1891. Les évêques co-consécrateurs etaient Blaise Morand, évêque émérite de Prince Albert et Mgr Bob Gay M.Afr., évêque émérite de Kabale (Ouganda). 16 évêques du Canada étaient aussi présents. Ils ont imposé les mains sur le nouvel évêque et l'on ainsi accueilli dans la Conférence Episcopale Canadienne comme pasteur de cette partie de l'Eglise universelle
Les témoins de cette cérémonie joyeuse et priante: les prêtres du Diocèse, les réligieux, les fidèles du Diocèse, la famille de Mgr Albert qui avait traversé le Manitoba, Une Soeur Missionnaire de Notre-Dame d'Afrique, des Missionnaires d'Afrique venus du Canada, de l'Ouganda, de Belgique et de Rome
Dans son Homélie, le Nonce Apostolique lut ce message du Pape Benoît XVI : " En devenant évêque vous ne renoncez pas à votre appel missionnaire. Au contraire, vous ferez de ce Diocèse une communauté missionnaire".
Le Nonce rappela alors à Albert que l'enracinement de la mission est dans la Trinité et comment en devenant évêque il continue la mission que Jésus a confié aux 12 apôtres. En découvrant par lui-même le visage transfiguré de Jésus, le Nonce a rappelé à Albert: "vous serez capable d'accueillir chacun avec affection parce que vous êtes envoyés par Jésus."
Situé au coeur de la partie occidentale du Canada, le clergé de ce Diocèse reflète énormement l'Eglise Universelle. Il est composé de prêtres, qui pour la plupart sont encore jeunes, venant du Canada, du Vietnam, des Philippines, du Ghana, du Nigéria et d'ailleurs.
D'ailleurs ceci reflète aussi le mélange multiculturel de la population de ce Diocèse. Avec cette expérience missionnaire, le clergé dit à son nouveau pasteur qu'ils espèrent qu'il les aidera à vivre complètement leur mission. Rappelant leur fidélité à leur ancien évêque, ils dirent à Albert : "Nous travaillerons avec vous, mais vous aurez toujours le dernier mot".
Les dernières paroles d'Albert avant de nous donner sa première bénédiction solennelle furent "asanteni sana" ("Merci beaucoup") pour tous ceux qui sont venus de loin où de près afin d'être avec lui pour cette importante occasion. Que nos prières l'accompagent dans sa nouvelle mission.

PRINCE ALBERT'S SEVENTH PASTOR
Photos belowThis year's feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord (6th August 2008) will be remembered in a special way in Prince Albert (Canada). In the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral, the Papal Nuncio to Canada, Most Reverend VENTURA ordained Albert THÉVENOT, M.Afr as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese since its foundation on 4th June 1891. The co-consecrating Bishops were Blaise MORAND, the just retired Bishop of Prince Albert, and Robert GAY, M.afr., Bishop Emeritus of Kabale (Uganda). Sixteen Bishops of the Canadian Episcopal also graced the occasion and laid hands on the new Bishop and welcomed him into the conference as pastor of this part of the universal Church.
To witness the joyful and prayerful ceremony were the diocesan priests, religious, the faithful of the Diocese, members of the family of Albert who had travelled Manitoba, a Missionary Sister of our Lady of Africa, Missionaries of Africa from Canada, Uganda, Belgium and Rome.
In his homily the Nuncio gave the following message of Pope Benedict XVI to Bishop Albert: "By becoming a Bishop you will not abandon your missionary call. On the contrary, you are to make the diocese a missionary community". The Nuncio then went on to remind Albert of the rooting of the mission in the Trinity and how, by becoming a bishop, he is continuing the mission Jesus gave to the 12 Apostles. By discovering himself the transfigured face of Jesus, the Nuncio reminded Albert, "you will be able to welcome all with affection because you are sent by Jesus".
Situated in the heart of the western part of Canada, the composition of the clergy of the diocese of Prince Albert reflects very much a world Church. It is composed of priests, most of whom are still quite young, from Canada, Vietnam, the Philippines, Ghana, Nigeria and elsewhere. This also reflects the multicultural mixture of the population of the diocese. With his missionary experience, the clergy told their new pastor that they hope that he would help them live out fully their mission. Recalling the dedication of their Bishop emeritus, they told Albert: "We will work with you, but you will always have the last word".
Albert's last words before giving us his first solemn Episcopal blessing were "asanteni sana" ("thanks very much") to all for coming from far and near to be with him on this important occasion. Our prayers accompany him in this new mission.
