Archives of the Society of Missionaries of Africa
The Societys Archives are private; the public does not have a right to consult them. Nonetheless we do admit bona fide researchers to study documents more than 50 years old.
Conservation of our Archives
The story of the DiariesThe Archives consist principally of correspondence, reports and other papers
coming from our founder, Cardinal Lavigerie until his death in 1892
or generated by the central administration of the Society.
There is also an important collection of the diaries kept at each mission station
from its foundation until about the 1960s.
Printed books in the Archives include the official publications of the Society
and its provinces, theses written by confrères, their monographs
on a great variety of subjects, but often concerned with Africa;
and books in African languages published at our presses.
There is in addition a collection of many thousands of photographs.
